Season Greetings Anglers and All!!!!!
I hope your Thanksgiving was great and your Christmas will be equally wonderful.
I know that this time of the year, alot of us turn to the woods to get our outdoors fix; but let's not forget about the fish. They are still here and are hungry as ever.
We've been having some good days on the Flats. The Trout and Redfish are mostly in the deep holes and warm water creeks; emerging when the sun gets up and warms the water. They seem hungrier now because the cool water forces alot of baitfish out of the bay and the fish don't have alot of selection.
The Flounder run was great this year, with several double digit fish brought to the scale. We're catching some nice Grouper inside the bay, as the water cools--the offshore fish tend to move closer in. This brings some really nice fish into the deeper parts of the Bay.Sometimes we troll deep divers such as stretch 25's or Bounce Bottom with large jigs or live bait. Then, there's also plenty of Giant Bull Redfish that show up in the fall and are here all winter. They range from 10-30 or even 40 lbs. Latch onto a dozen or so of these brutes, and your arms and back will beg for mercy.
If you're just wanting to load the cooler, let's not forget about the Whiting and the White Trout, also the Black Snapper have been biting well. As far as table-fare I can think of none better than the aforementioned three.
Next time you're freezing to death, 30ft. up a tree; so cold you can't make your fingers work to text your partner---come on down---enjoy the sun and some great fishing, and a warmer atmosphere. Bring your wife, kids, and your stories about that big'un with a rocking chair on his head; and let's spend a great day on the most beautiful coastal waters that God has created.
As always, and especially durng this holiday season I thank God for all the Blessings he has set before me. I thank our military for what sacrifices they make daily. I thank you, my fellow outdoors men for allowing me to be able to do what I love and share the joy of God's creations with others.
On a different note----
the cool weather often turns most of our thoughts to the harvest season. The harvest of crops, and grains, and of wild game. We as outdoors men and women must stick together against those who would take the right to harvest fish and game.
Yes, we do need regulation of harvest, but if we are not allowed to manage our animals, they will over-populate and then face--not enough food and habitat, suffering disease and starvation and then extinction.
If you feel like it is wrong to harvest game for the table I urge you to do some research-start here Genesis 27:3
From now until March I will be offering winter rates (Call for Details)-- so climb out of that deer stand or duck blind; grab some sunscreen and let's go fishing.
People say it's politically correct to say "Happy Holidays" BULL I say to you
MERRY CHRISTMAS, let's not take Christ out of the occasion; but put him first in all that we do.
Folks, now more than ever; there are so many who need your help in this holiday season. So many who need a warm meal or a place to sleep. Thank God this holiday for what you have and try to make someones holiday better. A smile and a kind word goes along way. We are so fortunate in this country----share your good fortune with others. You won't regret it !!!!!!!
Thank You and God Bless,
Cap'n Steve
